Recreation Rules of the Game

Mini-Kickers - U4 & U5

Teams: 3v3 and NO keeper.

Games may begin with 2v2 format if a team(s) is short players; sides should remain balanced throughout game up to full sides. Each team should have a minimum of one (1) sub otherwise small side format should be used. Coaches may agree to trade a player for the game to begin and/or balance a team for even sides. The same player may not be traded again in subsequent weeks until all other available players have been used. 

Substitutions: Unlimited substitutions may be made at stoppage of play. Players may return to game. Coaches are asked to balance playing time equally amongst all players.

Ball: Size 3

Games: Four (4) 5-minute periods with a 5-10 minute halftime break. Teams should take a short water break after periods 1 & 3. Change sides at halftime.

Equipment: Shoes (rubber cleats recommended), shin guards, and socks to cover shin guards. Every player is recommended to have his or her own ball.

The Kick-off: A coin toss is used to determine which team kicks off to start the game and the other team kicks off to start the second half. Opponents must be six yards from the center mark while kick-off is in progress. Opposing Team will take kick-off in second half. Opposing team may take kick-off after a goal scored. ALTERNATIVE: For U4 & U5, opposing coach may choose to start from their own goal box after an opposing team’s goal. Scoring team should return to their side of the midline and allow opposing team to advance beyond midline before engaging.

Ball In and Out of Play: The ball is out of play in all age group games when it completely crosses the sideline or goal line (end line) either on the ground or in the air. No throw-in or corner kicks. Coaches will determine where the ball went out of play and offensive team should pass ball back into play. Coaches are also encouraged to restart play by rolling or passing ball back into play themselves and allowing play to continue.

Fouls & Misconduct: NO HEADING THE BALL. Headed balls shall be considered a foul just like a hand ball. Indirect free kicks (no direct kicks on goal) for fouls; opponents remain five yards away from the ball for indirect kicks.

Referee: There will not be a referee for the game. One (1) coach per team should be on the field and should leniently call fouls and out of bounds balls. Coaches are also encouraged to restart play by rolling or passing ball back into play themselves and allowing play to continue.

LITTLE KICKERS: U6 - U8

Teams: 4v4 No Keeper

Games may begin with 3v3 format if a team(s) is short players; sides should remain balanced throughout game up to full sides. Each team should have a minimum of one (1) sub otherwise small side format should be used. Coaches may agree to trade a player for the game to begin and/or balance a team for even sides. The same player may not be traded again in subsequent weeks until all other available players have been used.

Substitutions: Unlimited substitutions may be made at stoppage of play. Players may return to game. Coaches are asked to balance playing time equally amongst all players.

Ball: Size 3 *for player safety, Size 3 ball should be used for games and practice. Parents are not required to purchase new balls if they already own a Size 4 ball.

Champions League: U9 - U12

Teams: 7v7 including Keeper (No Punting; throwing or rolling only).

Games may begin with 5v5 format if a team(s) is short players; sides should remain balanced throughout game up to full sides. Each team should have a minimum of one (1) sub otherwise small side format should be used. Coaches may agree to trade a player for the game to begin and/or balance a team for even sides. The same player may not be traded again in subsequent weeks until all other available players have been used.

Ball: Size 4

Games: Four 12-minute periods with a 5-10 minute halftime break. Short water break and rest after periods 1 & 3. Change sides at halftime.

Equipment: Shoes (rubber cleats recommended), shin guards, and socks to cover shin guards. Every player is recommended to have his or her own ball.

The Start of Play: The game should be started with a kick-off in the middle of the field.

The Kick-off: A coin toss is used to determine which team kicks off to start the game and the other team kicks off to start the second half. Opponents must be six yards from the center mark while kick-off is in progress. Opposing Team will take kick-off in second half. Opposing team may take kick-off after a goal scored.

Fouls & Misconduct: NO HEADING THE BALL.  Headed balls shall be considered a foul just like a handball. Indirect free kicks (no direct kicks on goal) for fouls; opponents remain five yards away from the ball for indirect kicks. There are NO penalty kicks.

Referees: Referee should briefly explain any infringements to the player(s) and encourage proper play and sporting behavior. As with all games, every effort should be made to keep the game moving and free from stoppages for doubtful infractions. Let them play and enjoy. Referees will work cooperatively with the coaches and eliminate the need for cautions and send-offs. Do not show yellow or red cards. No coaches allowed on field during play.

 

Champions Division:U13 - U15

Teams: 9v9 including Keeper (No Punting; throwing or rolling only).

Games may begin with 5v5 format if a team(s) is short players; sides should remain balanced throughout game up to full sides. Each team should have a minimum of one (1) sub otherwise small side format should be used. Coaches may agree to trade a player for the game to begin and/or balance a team for even sides. The same player may not be traded again in subsequent weeks until all other available players have been used.

Substitutions: Unlimited substitutions may be made at stoppage of play. Players may return to game. Coaches are asked to balance playing time equally amongst all players.

Ball: Size 4

Games: Two (2) 25-minute periods with a 5-10 minute halftime break. Short water break and rest after periods 1 & 3. Change sides at halftime.

Equipment: Shoes (rubber cleats recommended), shin guards, and socks to cover shin guards. Every player is recommended to have his or her own ball.

The Start of Play: The game should be started with a kick-off in the middle of the field.

Free kicks are awarded the attacking team inside the defending team's goal area should be taken from the nearest point on the goal area line in front of the goal. There are no penalty kicks.

As with all games, every effort should be made to keep the game moving and free from stoppages for doubtful infractions.
